The Fantasy Godfathers: Site Review

Site Name: The Fantasy Godfathers
URL: http://www.fantasygodfathers.com
Category: Free Fantasy Football Blog

Content
FantasyGodfathers is a relatively new player on the crowded Fantasy Football advice blog and site landscape. They offer a wide variety of entertaining content oriented mainly towards re-draft league FFers and users looking for help making in season fantasy football decisions.

FG publishes an impressive 3-4 articles a day during the season. These articles and statistical break downs cover much of what is standard fare across the better fantasy sites, but with one important difference. Fantasy Godfathers remains true to their name and brings a mafia theme into all of content. For example:

·         Stock Watch = Off the Record
·         Free Agent Pick Ups = “Fughettaboutit”
·         Trade Targets = Stand Up Guys
·         Players to Trade = On the Lam
·         Players to Cut or IR = Sleeping with the Fishes

They offer weekly rankings for all offensive position players and D/ST in their bullet proof rankings which are published Wednesday of each week and refreshed on Friday or Saturday. While some articles and analysis refers to PPR and IDP, the bulk of the FG content is squarely pointed toward standard scoring leagues. There is little to no dynasty or keeper league content served up currently.

User Experience
The most useful navigation feature for Fantasy Godfathers is the bar along the left side of the page which is always present no matter where you visit in the site. It gives one click access to each of the current versions of the weekly content provided.
The graphics and buttons, while a little spotty on quality, offer an entertaining ewalk down memory lane for any mafia movie/series fan.
There is no search functionality. The other area of improvement for the overall user experience would be the ability to see some archived content in each of their key articles (instead of only the most current article being presented).
There are currently no ads on Fantasy Godfathers, but they do have an advertising policy so that may change in the future.

Social Media/Community
FG has no in site user forums and does not appear to have a Twitter account. They have a facebook page which includes some updates of content for fans of their page.
They do interact with users in two very meaningful ways. First, they have the “Ask the family” section of their site where users can ask a specific fantasy football related question to the FG writers. During the 2010 season our reviewers tested this functionality 5 times and in each case received a response in less than 24 hours, and in most cases just a few hours. FG also participates as an expert at Fandemic.com in the fantasy football section. In fact in 2010 they were the highest ranked and most active expert responder, nearly 1000 points higher than the next most active expert.

Uniqueness/Entertainment
Well the Fantasy Godfathers have certainly identified a niche market within Fantasy Football users and have gone with it full force. Between the article titles, the mafia graphics on the site, the general mafiaso tone and language they use in their posts and in their responses to user questions they do a very good job of offering a unique and entertaining format which is a welcome break from the standard FF fare.
Rating 4 out of 5 stars

Bottom Line
Fantasy Godfathers is recommended for newer fantasy football users who play primarily in re-draft leagues. It is an absolute must visit for that population of fantasy footballers who also are fans of the mafia genre. Fantasy Godfathers is a free site with no cost to join or explore all of their content.

Must See Feature: Weekly Bulletproof rankings have scored very well in our in house accuracy testing.

Areas for Improvement: Off-season commentary to keep users entertained all year long, additional commentary on bulletproof rankings to address the “why” behind player rankings.
